Thank You, Parents, From Marva Semet

As we rev up for the 2021-2022 season, Marva Semet turns the page with a few final words. Marva is one of our biggest supporters, and wife of our Mentor Dr. Alain Semet. Not many would host a bunch of unknown high school students in their garage for over a year just to work on a solar car. From dinners, to ice cream, warm gestures, and her unconditional support we are so thankful to have such influential people in our life. THANK YOU Marva for the life changing opportunity.

Thank you, Raisbeck Aviation High School Solar Car Team Parents. Thank you for sending kind, empathetic, and well-mannered children to Texas for the 2021 Solar Car Race. Of course, you all want your kids to get good grades, win awards and accolades for science, technology, engineering, math, and be successful later in life. But, I truly believe who they are as a person is more important than any awards they get. And, you taught them to be kind, charitable, grateful for what they have, and have empathy for others.

The team in Texas as they say their final goodbyes!

I was moved to laughter at Lucien’s sense of humor when he said, “I’m going to rob a bank and hire Maya to defend me!” after Maya shared her defense to the race judges in order to remove penalty laps.

I was moved to tears when Nigel, after driving the circuit in the heat and humidity for hours to an assured victory, announced on the radio, “I just want to say, I love you Grandma, I love you Mom!”

I was grateful to Joseph for telling me how wonderful my brownies were, when in truth, they were overdone, dry, and burned on the bottom.

I was impressed with their thank-yous after washing and folding their laundry, when my own children took that for granted.

I will always remember Thomas’ smile and eye contact, even when exhausted from a hot day of racing, and I knew all he really wanted to do was take a nap.

RAHS’ team, above all, showed respect and courtesy to the other competing teams. Their etiquette elevated everyone in Texas. And you, dear parents, should be very proud of raising kids who are not only winners on the race track, but demonstrate the skills it takes to win at life.

Fondly,

Marva Semet
