Get to Know the Team

Jeremy, captain

Jeremy is a senior on the team. He has been a part of the Green Energy for 3 years and the Solar Car Team for 2. He joined the team because to him it is very rewarding to see something you build come to fruition and success. He also loves the opportunity to get hands-on engineering experience. Something many people don’t know about Jeremy is that he can juggle! In his free time he plays ultimate frisbee and runs track.

Hai Lin, captain

Hai Lin is a freshman on the team, and this is his first year. He got involved in solar car because he believed that it would allow him to develop his skills at designing and manufacturing. These are skills that are essential in the career he wishes to pursue (aerospace engineering). In his free time he loves skiing and playing sports. Currently he is building a full-scale airplane. Outside of solar car, Hai Lin enjoys building RC airplanes.

Aldrei 

Aldrei is a junior on the team. He joined the team this year in order to become a better photographer and out of his love for motorsports. A fun fact about Aldrei is that he loves helicopters. Outside of Solar Car, he enjoys photography.

Alexander, mechanical lead

Alexander is a senior on the team. This is his first year on the team, and he joined because he wanted to challenge himself during his last year of high school. After 3 years on the robotics team, he wanted to get another engineering perceptive. Some interesting facts about Alexander is that he has seen all the ice age movies (except the last one), he has visited 5 different countries, and he is very good at wrapping presents. Outside of solar car, he loves playing and watching soccer, designing things, and collecting jerseys.

Alexis 

Alexis is a freshman, and this is her first year on the team. She joined solar car to challenge herself and to learn more about functional engineering. Something not everyone knows about Alexis is that she first started playing soccer when she was 3 years old! Outside of solar car, her hobbies include soccer, photography and solitaire.

Ali, mechanical

Ali is a freshman, and this is his first year on the team. He got involved in solar car out of his love for engineering and to learn about real-life applications and experience working on a big team for such a cool challenge. A fun fact about Ali is that he is learning how to code. Some of his hobbies outside of solar car include speech and debate, spending time with his family, and swimming.

Evan

Evan is a freshman at Raisbeck and this is his first year on the team. He got involved in solar car in order to enhance his skills in engineering. In the future, the skills he obtains on the Green Energy Team will help him achieve his goals. A fun fact about Evan is that he can cook rice perfectly. Outside of solar car, he enjoys speech and debate, baseball and football.

Jackson 

Jackson is a freshman, and this is his first year on the team. He got involved in solar car because he wanted to have a hands-on experience that would also teach him about STEM and useful skills in STEM fields. Outside of solar car, Jackson enjoys snowboarding which he has been doing since he was 4 years old.

Jalen

Jalen is a freshman on the team. This is his first year on the team, and he got involved in the team because he heard an announcement about the open house and became interested. A fun fact about Jalen is that he travels a lot. Outside of solar car, he enjoys painting and reading.

Lauren 

Lauren is a senior at Raisbeck and this is her first year on the team. Lauren became interested in solar car because the project tackles a real world challenge in a fun and engaging way. She gets to understand all parts of a mini business while learning about factors like safety, cost and team management that you might not find in your average STEM club. Something not everyone knows about Lauren is that she was born in Arizona. Some of her hobbies outside of solar car include playing music in an orchestra, participating on FRC robotics team 3574 and she competitively cycles.

Lucien

Lucien is a freshman on the team, and this is his first year. He joined solar car because he wants to be an engineer in the future and thought this was an incredible chance to be able to work and learn about solar energy and electric vehicles. He also wants to do the best he can to stop climate change and help the world and learning about solar could help him do this later in life. Finally, he joined solar car so he could work as a team and with friends which is not only fun, but also a great experience. A fun fact about Lucien is that he has hiked across the Grand Canyon twice and last year he won the Northwest Youth Racing Circuit for sailing. Outside of solar car he enjoys hiking and sailing. He also enjoys traveling and experiencing other cultures.

Maddox

Maddox is a freshman on the team. This is his first year on the team, and he decided to join because he is interested in cars and so this seemed to be a perfect opportunity to get to build one from scratch. He was also inspired to join because electric and even solar cars are the future of transportation, so he wanted a better understanding of them. A fun fact about Maddox is that he wants to attend the US Naval Academy and possibly become a navy pilot. Outside of solar car, he is a competitive swimmer and he swims for Seattle Metropolitan Aquatics Club (SMAC) 4-5 times a week.

Max, structural

Max is a junior on the team. This is his first year on the team, and he joined because he wanted to join another school team that uses STEM to expand his knowledge of aerodynamics, electricity, and engineering that will ultimately help him in his future career. A fun fact about Max is that he is a certified private pilot. Outside of solar car, he enjoys flying, photography, scale modeling, skiing and tennis.

Maya, outreach and communications

Maya is a sophomore on the team. This is her first year as a member on the team, but she attended the competition in Texas last year with her brother who was one of the captains. She became interested in joining the team after attending the competition last year as a spectator. A fun fact about Maya is that she used to live in Italy and Denmark and can ride a 6ft unicycle. Outside of solar car, she enjoys horseback riding, playing lacrosse, running, photography and baking.

Nic, finance lead

Nic is a senior on the team. He has been on the green energy team for 3 years and done solar car for 2. He got involved with the solar car team, because he was originally part of the green energy team, so he decided to stick with it and join solar car. Something not many people know about Nic is that he used to do ballet, tap and jazz dance. Outside of solar car, he enjoys playing ice hockey year-round.

Nigel, structural lead

Nigel is a junior on the team. This is his first year on the team and he got involved in Solar Car because it was a great opportunity for him to work with his peers to make something incredible. Something not everyone knows about Nigel is that he has an orange tabby cat named Max. Outside of solar car, he enjoys 3D printing, CAD, and playing videogames.

Teddie 

Teddie is a sophomore at Raisbeck and this is his second year on the team. Teddie became interested in solar car after previously being part of a club that makes little planes and wooden bridges, but then heard about the solar car team and thought, “this had to be the coolest club in the school,” so he decided to join. He took part in the electrical sub-team. Outside of solar car, he enjoys carpentry, building houses, mountain biking and skiing. 

Tija 

Tija is a senior, and this is her second year on the team. She got involved in solar car because it sparked her interest in renewable energy projects and she wanted to expand her foundation of knowledge specific to the mechanical and electrical aspects of a solar car. A fun fact about Tija is that she has traveled to 15 different countries. Outside of solar car, she likes to spend her free time playing PC games, figure skating, and spending quality time with her family.

Whittaker 

Whittaker is a freshman, and this is his first year on the team. He got involved in solar car because he liked the flexible schedule and is interested in engineering and renewable energy. A fun fact about Whittaker is that he is from San Francisco and loves the 49ers. Outside of solar car, Whittaker is interested in entrepreneurship and making money.
